The year 2020 has entered the history of modern Belarus forever. The events that took place before and after the presidential elections brought a lot of pain to the Belarusian people, but they also gave hope for changes and a better life. Unfortunately, the attempt to change the government was not successful: many people were forced to leave the country, many ended up in prison, some are still persecuted by the authorities, and some gave their lives for the bright future of their homeland.
I took these photos within a year after the Belarusian authorities violently suppressed the protests. They reflect my personal and partly the general mood of my close people and friends. Sadness, resentment and paranoia haunted me all the time I stayed in the country. In the fall of 2021, I left Belarus.
